Slow Fiction Announce Debut Album dollhouse and Share New Song “satellite”

New York indie rock group Slow Fiction have announced their debut full-length album, dollhouse, which is set to be released on August 7 through the newly launched label Tight Knit.

Alongside the album announcement, the band has also shared a new single titled “satellite,” offering fans another preview of the upcoming project.

Band Lineup and Album Production

Slow Fiction is made up of five members: vocalist Julia Vassallo, guitarists Paul Knepple and Joseph Skimmons, bassist Ryan Duffin, and drummer Akiva Henig.

The band self-produced dollhouse, while Sonny DiPerri handled the mixing. The album follows the group’s earlier releases, including their 2023 self-titled EP and their 2024 EP Crush.

Over the past few years, Slow Fiction have continued building momentum through support slots with acts such as Wet LegVundabarEnglish Teacher, and others. The band was also named an Emerging Band to Watch in 2025, helping raise anticipation for their first full-length release.

“satellite” Offers a Fuzzy Indie Rock Sound

The new single “satellite” is a brief but memorable track built around a fuzzy instrumental atmosphere and touches of jangle pop. Its sound brings to mind influences similar to Alvvays and The Sundays, while still maintaining Slow Fiction’s own understated indie rock identity.

Throughout the track, Julia Vassallo keeps her vocals in a lower register, giving the song a worn-in, rainy-day mood. Although the music carries a slightly distant and hazy feeling, its message is more urgent beneath the surface.

Meaning Behind “satellite”

According to Vassallo, “satellite” explores the idea of selective empathy. The song reflects on how people can easily detach themselves from real-world conflicts when those issues feel uncomfortable or inconvenient.

She also pointed to the importance of expanding the meaning of community beyond digital spaces and personal echo chambers. The track suggests that real connection often requires discomfort, awareness, and responsibility, rather than simply engaging with what feels easy or familiar.

As the band continues gaining attention in the indie scene, dollhouse could become an important breakout moment for the New York quintet.
